Silicio Mini Player App Reviews

Handy Widget

Love this app… especially the Notification Center Widget. Simple, minimal, and intuitive. I’d only suggest that the controls wouldnt disappear unless all music source apps are closed, rather than what seems to be a set period of inactivity. Also, the ability to launch music source apps from widget when none are currently running would be ideal. Still, thanks for the great little app.

Could be handy but …….

I like the idea but it did not work real well for me. I wanted it for the Notification Center widget so I could seen and control what was playing. When I was listening to music with iTunes everytime I went to the Notification Center to see what was playing it would automatically launch Spotify everytime. As soon as I got rid of the widget the problems went away. I like the idea but still needs work.

UPDATE: Broken with Spotify — Beautiful, Useful Widget

NEW 1-STAR REVIEW: As of the latest version of Spotify (March 2015, 1.0.2.6), Silicio longer recognizes that any music is being played. Regardless of whether or not Silicio is open in the dock or as a widget in Notification Center, it does not recognize that music is currently playing and instead stays blank. This needs to be fixed soon. PREVIOUS 5-STAR REVIEW: This widget is beautiful. It looks great in Notification Center. It’s easy to access, it works well, and I love it. Perfect for zooming around between desktop spaces and preventing distractions (just open Notification Center instead of Spotify or iTunes) when doing work. In the last version I had one small complaint, posted a review, and they fixed it in the latest update (that’s awesome)!

The only spotify widget I’ve found

This is the only app I have found that works for adding spotify as a widget on yosemite. Because of a recent spotify update, no other apps seem to work but somehow they got this one functioning. Only drawback is it doesn’t show the spotify album art, which could change if spotify undoes their terrible update that restricts so many third party apps. Would be cool if they enabled the button in spotify that lets you put songs in various playlists and such so I could do that right from the widget.

Great!

Does exactly what it should do - clean and functional. Thanks!

Minimal Perfection

The simple, easy, minimal way to view, control and play music on your desktop. Minimally perfect. Perfectly minimal.

player control

i would give this 5 stars but there is no option nor by default it doesnt show player control in notification center. this leads me to one extra click to show the control - everytime i like to change/pause the song. Appreicate art work being displayed but maybe that plus control can be easily accommodated. also adding support for Apple music is a bonus.

Fantastic App

Beautiful and does what it should. If I could make one feature request it would be the ability to bind hot keys to the player controls. Right now I have to run a second app to play/pause my music.

Great Idea, Almost There

At a cost of absolutely nothing, there’s no reason not to download this app. It’s sleek, works, and it supports Spotify. Downloaded. With that said, there are some problems. 1. The album artwork only ever displays as written over with the controls, not when moused over. Kinda ugly, a bit of a downer since it looks like it’s supposed to do that in the screnshots, but not terrible. 2. The scrubber is abysmal. It’s always at the wrong time (stuck at start or end), you can’t move forwards or backwards, and most of the time it doesn’t even update regularly. 3. The metadata is usually off (shows it playing the wrong song). However, it’s free, and damnit, the buttons work. Good enough for me. Looking for a not-free but better polished alternative? Go somewhere else, this isn’t it. Simplify, BarRemote, etc. But damnit, this one is free.

Great! Could Use One Thing

This app is awesome. Very simple but does exactly what it should. One thing it needs: the ability to lock the position of the album art on the desktop. I have it perfectly placed and don’t want it to move! Haha.

Best Option for a Mini-Spotify Player on the App Store

I’ve always been the type to have an iTunes Mini Player pinned to my desktop, so when I made the switch to Spotify, I went on the search for a nice mini-player. I’ve tried all the ones available on the App Store (Simplify, MiniPlay, etc.) and this is by far the best one available. Super clean design, minimalistic, no unnecessary doc apps or menubar apps. Simplicity at its finest. I’ll have this on my desktop for as long as it is compatible with OSX!

Very nice add-on

Nice add-on for Spotify to have a minimalist controller to skip tracks.

Needs scrub control

Needs scrub control and the controls need to be present at all times.

Love the Notifications

The mini player offers everything now (with the latest update) and looks GREAT on my desktop! Thank you!

Loveliest of the bunch for use with Spotify

Silicio is a lovely, clean, minimalist app that I use exclusively with Spotify. I’ve tried a few similar apps, and I enjoy Silicio the most. Two things I’d love to be able to do with Silcio are the following: 1. Click the Silicio window to bring Spotify on top 2. Reshape the Silicio window to lay beside my dock in a row on the bottom of the screen—thus obstructing no other application window and yet very easy to see its information and interact with

Great But...

This is a great design and it looks promising, but the album art and song title don’t change for me when using Spotify. I did not test with any other players.
